Hello - I hope you're all well in these strange times. This is Iain and I wrote what was lost and I thought I'd share a few bits about the writing.
Firstly, to my mind, I think there would have to be a very strong reason for Marion to leave the convent and re-join Robin and a child, and the protection of that child, is strong motivation indeed. Over the question of whether Robin and Marion would get it on, I absolutely think they would have - their lives are different to the accepted norm in every way, and I do think with death always a present threat and the possibility of losing a loved one before being loved, is a strong drive to just live for the moment (I'm also sure that Marion would recognise this more than most). I also feel that they would have tried some kind of birth control method - unsuccessfully as it turned out! But, if you're to be married and at that point, there is nothing to lose, then why not?? They're also outlaws - so they don't have to follow the rules! The big fly in the ointment, was Gulnar and the duplicate Robin. When Marion finds what she thinks is Robin, dead, it's a case of her world crumbling all over again... Her heart broken, it's not surprising that she chose to leave her old life behind and try to find some kind of peace. of course, finding out that Robin is alive is just another nail in the coffin. When Marion finds she pregnant, her logic, I felt, was to protect the child at all costs because having something in your life that people can use against you is a great weakness in your armour - so it seemed to me that not telling Robin, despite all of Tuck's pleas, was completely understandable. Plus, would you really want to expose your child to that kind of existence?
Marion has lived an extraordinary life - full of love, hate and violence and inevitably, it has changed her, hardened her in some ways. I think a form of PTSD couldn't be ruled out, but ultimately, she was protecting her child - and her actions show she's grown as a person.
Robert (Robin) is going through the worst break up ever. Imagine yourself in that position where, even though you see injustice all around you, and believe in taking a stance, one of your primary motivations for taking up the mantle of the Hood is the love of a woman. Unrequited at first but then, it all changes and you are happiness itself. So when Marion leaves him, that's the worst comedown and as he's the glue for the group, it all unravels - well to a certain extent . He has issues with Tuck - who is the Facebook of the day in terms of being able to stalk his ex from afar, but, oh no - he's been blocked!!! Scarlet has his own issues of course, but for the remaining members, they remember how it was last time and so try to stick together - despite Meg really giving John a hard time.
I thought about where these people might be and how the stress of their lives would begin to affect them... The you couple in the Sheriff (and by the way, in my mind, it was the Abbess who betrayed Marion, but after only Hugo threatened to close down the Abbey for unpaid taxes to the crown that he was ordered to collect in his capacity as acting Sheriff. She offered up the information in part to keep Hugo from taking everything away from her and her sisters - but that's another story, as they say!).
I hope you enjoy the second part of the tale - any questions you might have, I'll try to answer but I honestly thought that series 4 would have to be somewhat more grown up and gritty in terms of moving the characters forwards. You should see where I wanted to take Gisburne and Roberts relationship!
All the best
